M.S. 35 (Stephen Decatur Middle School) is a public school serving students in grades six through eight. The school's…More principal is Jacklyn Charles-Marcus.
When M.S. 35 ran as a K through 8 school, it was known for its gang violence and poor academic record. However, since the school's reorganization as a middle school and since its current principal, Ms. Charles, took charge in 2004, the culture of the school and its test scores are improving. The school offers the Houghton Mifflin Reading Program, small group tutoring, Saturday school, after-school programs and programs of the New York State Reading Academy.
M.S. 35 is located on the first, second and part of the third floors of a building it shares with P.S. 141, a school for children with severe disabilities and the Brooklyn Brownstone School, located on the fourth floor.
