To the family of Ramona Parker:
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Death affects…Read More everyone on the face of this earth, yet when it touches us personally, few seek the comfort they search for. The unscriptual doctrines that are taught concerning death do not leave those grieving with comfort or a hope, but they do leave many with unanswered questions. The response that "God works in mysterious ways", does not satisfy the spiritual needs of those who are grieving (Matthew 5:3). However, many have found comfort in the pages of God's word the Bible (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4). In God's word we find the promise that we can be reunited with our loved ones (John 5:28, 29, Acts 24:15). The Bible tells us where this happy reunion will take place (Psalm 37: 11, 29, Matthew 5:5). We are told why we die (Genesis 3:17-19, Romans 5:12), and that the God of the Bible will end death forever (1 Corinthians 15:26, Revelation 21:3, 4). In the model prayer, also called the lord's prayer, readers are taught to pray for God's Kingdom (Matthew 6:10). Learning the truth about the God of the Bible (Psalm 83:18, Revelation 4:11), God's Kingdom (Daniel 2:44), and the state of those who have died (Ecclesiastes 9:5), is the start to finding true comfort concerning loved ones who are sleeping in death, as well as satisfying answers to many other questions (John 8:32, John 11:11).

Your article has some valid points there needs to be more innovation at this point and time in our…Read More schools. All schools are not created equal and it seems to me it's charter vs public schools. There are too many people running the system in to the ground trying to point fingers at who should be held accountable. I experienced a situation at the school my son attended where there were budget problems and lack of enough resources. It was very sad to see this in this day and age. Too much focus is placed on opening more Charter schools rather than working on the solution with what's wrong with the existing public school. I said this before there are too many schools be created and thus cause for mismanagment of funds and resources and people qualified people. This summer my son was told that he had to attend summer school for not passing the math state test only to find out that he had passed it but had to take it again. Our children/schools are only statistics on paper. The curriculum is the problem it's not clearly defined, or challenging. It is teaching out kids to cram for test not preparing them for life long learning. Education is a freedom why are our children not being allow to learn. If we have to extend the day and shorten summer vacation I am totally for it this is what we need. As for teachers if they are not fit for the classroom send them back to school on their dime. Yes I could have sent my son to Charter school but I'm loyal to my public schools.

Thanks for doing something in an effort to improve conditions for those struggling and most in need…Read More in Central Brooklyn. I am very interested in knowing how you will effectively recruit and include Bedford-Stuyvesant's natural and often overlooked future leaders for participation in this leadership training weekend. How will the community be able to stay informed about outcomes from the event and ongoing implementation of these plans?
Colvin W. Grannum August 11, 2011 at 05:28 pm
Thank you for your excellent questions. As to recruitment of new leadership, we have cast a wide…Read More net by inviting current and future leaders including mailing more than 300 invitation letters, emailing scores of personal invitations, soliciting the names of young people who have demonstrated leadership in local activities, postings on Restoration's website and Facebook page, email blasts, and articles in Our Times Press and Bed Stuy Patch as well as banners inside and outside of SuperFoodtown of Bedford Stuyvesant. We are also offering partial scholarships in an effort to remove money as a barrier to participation while also being responsible in encouraging the community to participate in covering the costs of the forum. I interpret your second question as relating to community engagement and accountability. One of the goals of the summit is to have the participants fashion plans for implementation of specific projects, inclduing community mobilization, and providing community updates. As your question suggests, successful implementation of such processes is one of the elements that will foster community breakthrough and transformation. Please send us best wishes if you are unable to join us. Thank you.

Best Wishes on what will be a powerful summit. I recently completed a similar course that helped me…Read More recognize the obstacles in my life and more importantly gave me the tools to set them aside and contribute more powerfully in my relationships. I commend you for providing the access of this work to the larger community.
