@ Ik:
Yes they have the (legal) right to be alcohol pushers--but its it morally right? Since all of…Read More society pays (via taxes) for the destructive force of alcohol, everyone has the right to stand up and speak out about the flood of alcohol pushers operating in this area. I never used a religious basis for opposing alcohol; please reread my above posting--you mischaracterize my statements. I merely noted that historically clergy, politicians and school officials opposed alcohol pushers siting in this area. Nowadays they operate fully and freely without clergy, politicians & schools staffers standing up complaining as they once did. It recently developed that huge cash bribes are being paid to some area clergy, politicians NOT to use the New York State Law that bans alcohol pushers from 500 feet of these Houses of Worships. Were the area clergy and school officials to stand up, at least half of the local alcohol pushers would not be in existence. Stand up stand up...fight for your rights! The community needs LESS alcohol pushers and MORE book stores and computer use training stores. Any takers?

Paying them higher wages may make it more likely for the workers to consider your health and wash…Read More their hands to avoid cross contamination or worse, e-coli. To have them wear gloves and have enough sense to know why the cashier and the fry cook should not shake hands. Though if you really want to help those on the bottom of the totem pole, make public transportation free. The workers can see more of their $ and restaurant prices or happy meals will not have to go up to accomodate the extra cost.

Are you kidding me? These people KNEW going into these jobs what they would get paid. They were…Read More unwilling to bust their backs doing construction, or to get an education, so they need more wages to be rude, text friends at work, and answer a bell to remove fries from grease? You think paying them higher wages will make customer service employees less rude? Wow.. And what they CEO's make? They set this business up! Don't like the wage, pick a different career path!

Why just fast food restaurants? should'nt all food workers be paid the same? Why does what the owner…Read More make have to come into consideration? how many restaurants do you have to own ? how much money must they make? If I make a 1$ mass produced mcdonalds hamburger why should i get paid 15$ if the guy down the street makes a 25$ fresh hamburger and gets paid 8$ ,is that fair

Kat, I never automatically go with what is on the awning, because it sometimes differs from the…Read More actual name of the business. I asked the manager twice the full name of the store, and he kept saying "Organic Food Store." But, there was a bit of a language barrier between us during the entire interview. I suspect you might be right... I will zip back up there tomorrow.

Joe, If they really want to be correct about it, a bodega is a vineyard and what is called a…Read More "bodega" is actually a colmado. But it does seem that the name the mini-market is dubbed depends on the the owner's and worker's ethnicity. However, when a deli is owned by an Asian, managed by a Dominican and worked by central and South Americans, what is that called?

What's in a name? Its an age old question! Reading various blogs, magazines, books and newspapers,…Read More it seems when a food business run by white folks, it's a grocery store or even a health food store. But when its run by Hispanics or even Arabs types--its called a bodega. Does anyone care to weigh in on what is the difference between 'bodegas' and grocery stores or health food stores? Especially since all three sell alcohol and tobacco!
