Project Safe Surrender: Court Comes To Church

This Friday and Saturday, residents of Central Brooklyn can vacate their minor summonses, no questions asked

There are more than 300,000 open warrants across the five boroughs—67,000 in Bed Suy alone.

Beginning Friday, December 2, through Saturday, December 3, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, at Mount Sion Baptist Church, located at 365 Ralph Avenue in Brooklyn, clergy, pastors defense attorneys will be available free of charge to help anyone who is willing, resolve their outstanding summons warrants.

Through a program called , a judge and court attorneys will be on hand to vacate (dismiss) all warrants that have resulted from summons for minor offenses.

More than 1,250 New York City residents turned out at Antioch Baptist Church earlier this year in April to participate in what was a peaceful and successful event, the second Project Safe Surrender sponsored by the office of District Attorney Charles J. Hynes.

This will be the third installment, and the event organizers are hoping to more than double the turnout of the last event.

These offenses may include trespassing, spitting, loitering, disorderly conduct, walking an unleashed dog, drinking alcohol in public, drinking alcohol underage, riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, making unreasonable noise, etc.

After participants have had their offenses vacated, at the Shirley Chisholm Day Care Center Inc, located at 2023 Pacific Street in Brooklyn, there will be food and an array of organizations offering job services, training and resources.

*Note: While this is not amnesty, favorable consideration will be given to those who participate.
