Port Authority Outlines Pavement Schedule of Outerbridge Crossing
Now through the end of October, the project will include a full pavement replacement of the east and westbound spans and approach asphalt riding surfaces
On April 24, 2013, the Board of Commissioners of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, approved a $23 million project to replace the pavement on the Outerbridge Crossing, the first of three innovative construction engineering projects representing a $2.8 billion total investment in the three bridges that connect Staten Island, New York and New Jersey.
The other projects include construction of a new bridge to replace the Goethals Bridge, and the raising of the Bayonne Bridge roadway to allow for larger ships to pass through to ports.
The project scope includes structural rehabilitation of the roadway deck, curbs, safety walk, and parapets; full pavement replacement of the east and westbound spans and approach asphalt riding surfaces and replacement of the concrete pavement in the toll plaza area.

Weekday Closures
Now through October 2013

- Monday through Thursday evenings 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning
- After Labor Day, weekday closures will begin at 9 p.m.
Weekend Closures
- Fridays at 11:59 p.m. through Saturdays at 7 a.m
- After Labor Day, the bridge will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday mornings
Work is weather may be postponed in the event of heavy rain. There will be no closures on Saturday and Sunday evenings or holiday weekends.
