To all you die-hard Brooklynites, what's it gonna be? Knicks or Nets?

Monday night’s game between the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets admittedly was one of the season’s more savory highlights so far:

Two New York City NBA teams -- more or less evenly matched in skill -- going head-to-head at the brand-new Brooklyn Barclay's Arena!

What’s better is the game went into overtime, underscoring even further the thin line between what separates the greatness of Brooklyn as a borough from the preeminence of New York City as a whole.

“I’m a Knicks fan to the end,” said one native New Yorker who has lived for the past 16 years in Central Brooklyn. “…But I wouldn’t be too upset if the Nets won this one either.”

Whether you are a native Brooklynite, longtime Brooklynite, or whether you just arrived here within the last five years, it all begs the question: Are you a New Yorker first or a Brooklynite first?

Even Spike Lee -- known globally for representing Brooklyn with fierceness and unwavering pride but who is also known equally for his unbending loyalty to the Knicks – last night had to poke fun at the irony of it all (see commercial attached).

So for all you Brooklynites who have been Knicks supporters, what’s it gonna be now: The Knicks or the Nets?
