Melissa Harris-Perry, Hon. Barbara Lee and Others in Brooklyn to Honor Chisholm

Brooklyn College to host "Chisholm '72 40th Anniversary Conference" today!

On Thursday, March 29, from 9:30am - 7:00pm, at Brooklyn College, the Shirley Chisholm Project will hold a free conference celebrating the 40th anniversary of Shirley Chisholm’s historic bid for the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

Chisholm, daughter of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, honored alumni of Brooklyn College, and the first African-American woman elected to Congress was an outspoken feminist, supporter of public education, labor rights, abortion rights, a peace activist and a champion of the black freedom struggle.

This conference will bring together nationally acclaimed scholars and activists, as well as Brooklyn college students and community activists to look back at Chisholm’s legacy.
