Cleaning Becomes Contagious at NYC Public Schools

Each year, the volunteers of New York Cares provide nearly $1 million of services to the public schools in a single day

The 20th Annual New York Cares Day brought out more than 7,000 volunteers this Saturday, all of whom canvassed the city to help clean up, brighten and revitalize New York City public schools.

Volunteers painted colorful murals inside and outside the schools, repaired fences, re-organized libraries, planted flowers and fixed-up playgrounds.

This year, volunteers spruced up 111 schools -- 46 in Brooklyn, including 15 in Bed-Stuy.
