What Runoff? de Blasio Polling Above 40 Percent

The latest Quinnipiac Poll, with a week to go before the election, has Public Advocate Bill de Blasio clearing the 40 percent threshold that would prevent a runoff in a Democratic primary for mayor.

With the support of 43 percent of Democrats, de Blasio's numbers reflect a continuing surge towards the nomination. If Quinnipiac's numbers bear out, de Blasio would not even have to face a run-off, and would earn the Democratic nomination outright on the first ballot.

"New Yorkers are responding to Bill de Blasio's bold progressive vision to break from the Bloomberg years and end the Tale of Two Cities that we're living," de Blasio's campaign manager Bill Hyers said in a statement. 

Former Comptroller Bill Thompson was the most likely runoff candidate, with 20 percent, and 18 percent for one-time frontrunner and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. 

The poll also found that former MTA chairman Joe Lhota is also likely to beat a runoff in the Republican Primary, with the support of 48 percent of Republicans.
