Tish James Blasts Squadron's Record on Gun Control

In an email, James says Squadron has NEVER passed even a single piece of gun legislation into law

New York City public advocate candidate Letitia James released a “fact-check” email blasting rival State Senator Daniel Squadron’s television ad that touts his record on gun control, reportedPolitcker.  

In the ad, which was released on Tuesday and features a glowing endorsement from U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, Squadron effuses over his record in the senate where he says he has been an effective leader in combating gun violence and improving the lives of families, kids, and seniors.

In response, James sent out an email blast, refuting point-by-point the senator’s claims:

“As an Albany legislator, Squadron has NEVER passed even a single piece of gun legislation into law,” Ms. James press secretary Pat Barrientos countered. “In fact, over the past two years as a failed Albany politician, Squadron has passed a total of zero (0) bills into law.”

Squadron spokeswoman Amy Spitalnick said answered back in statement. “The James campaign is 100% wrong on the facts,” she said, and added that “Squadron has been a leader who’s gotten results.”

"NYAGV has worked with Daniel Squadron on many gun safety issues, most recently on his legislation to strengthen the state assault weapons ban which was included in the landmark NY SAFE Act signed into law earlier this year," said Leah Gunn-Barrett, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.
