Stringer Finds First Lead in Comptroller Race

With less than a week to go before Primary Day in New York City, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer has pulled into a lead in at least one poll.

A Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday showed Stringer with a narrow two-point lead over former governor Eliot Spitzer, the first time Spitzer has trailed in any polling so far.

The same poll last week showed Spitzer and Stringer tied, while two weeks earlier Spitzer had a seemingly-insurmountable 19-point margin.

"The Democratic primary for New York City comptroller is no longer an Eliot Spitzer romp. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer has made the comptroller race a nail-biter, too close to call," said pollster Maurice Carroll.

According to the poll, black voters overwhelmingly support Spitzer in the race — with Stringer making up the difference among white voters.

Voting will take place Tuesday, Sept. 10 to secure the Democratic nomination for comptroller.
