Quinn Officially Launches Mayoral Bid

In video published Sunday, Quinn starts campaign to be city's first female mayor.

After months — years, even — of open speculation, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn confirmed Sunday that she's running for mayor.

Quinn uploaded a five-minute Youtube video Sunday, sharing some of her personal history and talking up what's she's done for the city during her time in government.

The video begins with Quinn in a typical New York City scene — sitting at the counter in a diner — and playing up her pro-union bonafides with an anecdote about her father and growing up on Long Island.

"I'm not about talking and finger-pointing and complaining, I'm about getting things done," Quinn said in the video.

The video was accompanied by a tour of the five boroughs Sunday.

Quinn has been the presumed front-runner among Democrats for months. A recent poll showed her with the most name recognition and support among any of the candidates.

Yesterday afternoon I was at the Fulton Street Appleby's in Bed-Stuy. I saw six homeless-looking Blacks holding Quinn Campaign Signs surrounded by about fifty well-dressed whites; they were awaiting Quinn's arrival. Once Quinn arrived, on cue the Blacks surrounded Quinn & together they marched down Fulton Street engaging folks & taking scam photos and videos. I smell a scam to portray Quinn as having Black support. Folks better wake up before its too late. Quinn is a fraud; she publicly stated Ray Kelly will continue to head the NYPD (read: stop & frisk will continue to terror Black folks). Quinn helped Bloomberg get a third term and thereby do the serious damage to Blacks he did over the past four years.Quinn refuses to help improve NYCHA housing projects and even publicly stated she would sell housing projects. Quinn stopped the paid sick leave bill from becoming law, she refuses to support the Section 5 voting rights law now threatened with abolishment by Congressional Republicans. Quinn has no Blacks in key positions on her staff, and don't forget the 2008 slush fund probe. Quinn took money from real estate interests who are currently tearing up the Black community. The list goes on and on. The NY Daily News and NY Post continue to publish these bogus surveys that claim Quinn has 37% of NYC supporting her. That is a fat lie to create the false impression Quinn can win. Quinn can only win if folks are suckered to believing the lie. Don't fall for Quinn's fat lie.

While some Blacks will support any politician that offers a good product, the reality is that Blacks will support mainly Black politicians in our city because they are Black, period. I see it all the time and hear about it all the time. Whites will vote for Whites and that is fine. People will vote for people that they can identify with. What we need to do is stop living the lie and realize that this is a reality and stop force feeding eachother anything but.
