Queens LGBT Club Endorses Liu

This makes the second of five prominent LGBT groups not to choose Quinn

The Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens has chosen to endorse Comptroller John Liu in the mayor’s race over Council Speaker Christine Quinn — even though the co-chair of the club’s campaign works for Quinn, the Post reports.

“I’m proud and honored to have the support of this organization,” said, Liu, who has been lagging in the polls.

However, this makes the second of five prominent LGBT groups not to choose Quinn, who would be the city’s first openly gay mayor.

Still, Quinn’s spokesman Mike Morey emphasized that city council speaker has wide support from clubs, committees, elected officials and activists from across the five boroughs. But the recent endorsement – or lack thereof – is a signal that the gay vote is not necessarily a sure thing for Quinn.
