Mayoral Debate Postponed For Sandy Anniversary

The third and final mayoral debate which was scheduled for Tuesday has been pushed back one day, according to the New York City Campaign Finance Board. 

The NYCCFB announced Sunday night that at the urging of both candidates, the final debate will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 instead of Tuesday, Oct. 29, which is the first anniversary of the arrival of Superstorm Sandy. 

"The next mayor will be responsible for helping the affected families recover, and for helping a wounded city become more resilient," said Amy Loprest, Executive Director of the New York City Campaign Finance Board. "The first anniversary of Sandy's landfall can serve to focus this discussion about the future of our city. Out of respect to those who are still rebuilding, we join all New Yorkers in commemorating the storm on Tuesday."

The campaigns of Republican Joe Lhota and Democrat Bill de Blasio released a joint statement over the weekend, urging the NYCCFB to push back the debate. 

The debate will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Because of the move, the debate will be held in a smaller studio at Rockefeller Plaza and the planned live audience has been cancelled.
