Laurie Cumbo Raises Nearly $70K For 35th District City Council Campaign

The Democratic City Council candidate has received more than 500 donations.

Democratic City Council Candidate Laurie Cumbo has raised $68,966 from a broad coalition of over 530 supporters, nearly doubling her total from the last filing period.

Cumbo has also exceeded CFB's threshold for in district donors needed to qualify for matching funds, maxed out in matchable fund donations and 83 percent of the total donations are $100 or less, signaling large on-the-ground support for this campaign.

"I am humbled by the support my candidacy has gained during this period," Cumbo said. "During hard economic times like these, I’m so grateful that over 530 individuals believe so strongly in my message and candidacy to donate to my campaign. This wide-ranging coalition of support knows that as a City Councilmember, I will bring resources back to the District, find innovative ways to bring jobs back into our community and fight to improve our schools."

Cumbo is up against a range of candidates looking to replace veteran City Councilwoman Letitia James, who is term-limited out of office. The field of political hopefuls includes Ede Fox; Jelani Mashariki; Khari Edwards; and two district leaders, Olanike Alabi and Jesse Hamilton.

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
