Kelly Credits Drop in Crime, Less Stops to Stop-and-Frisk

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said on Tuesday that the recent report showing a reduction in street stops and crime was a reflection of the deterrent effect of stop-and-frisk.

According to police stats published Monday, the number of murders in the city has fallen from 97 murders so far this year, a 27 percent decrease from the 133 homicides recorded at this same time in 2012

Mayor Michael Bloomberg also credited the drop in the number of people stopped and questioned by cops to the falling crime rate in the city. 'That's the results of this,' Bloomberg said referring to the stop-and-frisk policy.

“If you think you're going to get stopped, you don't carry a gun,” he said. “The crime goes down, the number of stop-and-frisks ... goes down.”
