Jeffries Wins Support of Machinist Union

The New York State Council of Machinists and its largest union, District 15 IAM, have announced their support of Hakeem Jeffries' run for Congress.

Yesterday it was announced that Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, in his bid for a Congressional seat, now has the support of the New York State Council of Machinists and its largest union – District 15 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

District 15 IAM is a long-standing labor union in New York. In 1896, they took the lead in the fight for the nine-hour workday, and recently, fought for union and collective bargaining rights for New York limousine drivers. The NYS Council of Machinists, which includes airlines, railroads and other manufacturers, has about 7,000 members in Brooklyn.

"We are proud to endorse Hakeem Jeffries for Congress," said Jim Conigliaro Sr., Directing Business Representative for District 15 IAM, in a statement. "Assemblyman Jeffries has shown a strong commitment to labor rights and increasing wages for struggling Brooklyn workers.”

"I am thrilled to be endorsed by the New York State Machinists and District 15 IAM," said Jeffries, in a release. "This union is in the heart of the 10th Congressional district and has spent over a century fighting for the fair and equitable rights and wages for all workers. Together, we will continue to keep labor rights a priority in New York."
