Jeffries Pushes For House Vote to End Shutdown
Rep. says Obamacare complaints from GOP don't hold water.
With the shutdown of the federal government now entering its second week, the rhetoric out of Washington, D.C. is getting more heated by the hour.
During the Congressional Black Caucus Special Order hour on Monday night, U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-Bed-Stuy) stood in a mostly empty House chamber beside a chalkboard that displayed the total votes needed to reopen the government.
Jeffries again chastised House Republicans for using a government shutdown to stand in the way of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
"What are you so angry about?" Jeffries asked. "Enough with this myth that the Affordable Care Act is a train wreck."
He also slammed the GOP for their attempts to paint Democrats as unwilling to negotiate with Republicans.
"Democrats refuse to negotiate. Negotiate over what? Negotiate over a law that my colleagues have clearly indicated is the law of the land passed by a duly elected Congress?"
Jeffries finished by slamming House Speaker John Boehner for claiming that the votes did not exist in Congress to reopen the government.
