Hakeem Jeffries to Make Announcement About Political Future

Event scheduled Sunday at Brooklyn Borough Hall

Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, D-Brooklyn, will make an announcement this weekend at Brooklyn Borough Hall about his political future, according to a post on his Facebook page.

Though the exact nature of the announcement was not clear, Jeffries set up last spring looking into a possible run for the Congressional seat currently held by Edolphus "Ed" Towns, D-Brooklyn.

A Twitter profile, Hakeem4Congress, was also recently set up, reading: "Enough with this old politics of Ed, lets elect a strong voice to Washington."

According to a spokeswoman for Jeffries, the Twitter account, @Hakeem4Congress, is not affiliated with the Assemblyman or his Congressional exploratory committee.

Councilman Charles Barron, D-Brooklyn, is also said to be eyeing Towns' seat.
