Citing high taxes that have driven families from the state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced the launch of a new state Tax Relief Commission that will focus on trimming state budget items and passing those savings onto residents in the form of lower state tax bills.
The commission specifically will examine the state's corporate, sales and personal income tax codes and will be governed but a panel of state leaders including former Gov. George Pataki. and former state comptroller H. Carl McCall.
The panel is expected to file a report on Dec. 6 recommending specific tax reduction plans to the governor.
Other commission members include Dall Forsythe, former New York State budget director; Jim Wetzler, director at Deloite Tax LLP and former New York State Tax Commissioner; Heather Briccetti, chief executive of New York State Business Council; Bill Rudin, senior advisor at Brown & Weinraub; Jack Quinn, president of Erie Community College, and Denis M. Hughes, former president of the state chapter of the AFL-CIO.
