Cumbo, Cornegy To Join City Council

Few surprises in Brooklyn after de Blasio's landslide.

There were few surprises in down-ticket City Council races Tuesday night, as incumbents and incoming Democrats held sway in Brooklyn.

Laurie Cumbo, running uncontested in District 35, will be the City Councilwoman who replaces Letitia James in Fort Greene and Prospect Heights.

In District 36, Democrat Robert Cornegy won with more than 85 percent of the vote, according to the New York Times.

Cornegy won by a razor-thin margin in the Democratic primary, and was facing off against Kristen John Foy once again, with Foy running this time from the Working Families Party line. Foy's general election turnout couldn't hold a candle to the Democratic Party in Bed-Stuy and beyond.

In District 41, Darlene Mealy was reelected with 97 percent of the vote, the Times reported.
