This week, the New York City Board of Elections approved a new digital process of reporting election-night vote totals that promises faster and more accurate results, says the New York Times.
Under the new procedure, at the end of the election night, police officers will bring memory sticks from each ballot scanner back to the police precincts, where the digital information will be handed over to Board of Elections staff members, who will upload the results and transmit the data back to the police department, says the article.
Previously, police officers entered all of the information into a computer system themselves, according to the Times.
The commissioners said the new procedure would avoid the counting issues that arose in last month’s District 13 Congressional primary, says the paper.
