Bed-Stuy Council Race Still Up in the Air, BOE Says

Race still undecided two weeks after Primary Day.

The New York City Board of Elections is still working feverishly on a recount for Bed-Stuy's District 36, more than two weeks after Primary Day.

According to information from the NYC BOE, Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. is leading Kristen John Foy in the race to replace Council member Al Vann. The margin after the first machine count was less than a percentage point — with Cornegy leading Foy 30.37 percent to 29.62 percent.

That margin, according to a report in the New York Daily News, represents less than one hundred votes now. While the report said a recount result could come in as soon as Wednesday, a Board of Elections worker said they have no information yet as to when the count would be finished.

Both campaigns have been cautious with the public statements, and have gone quiet on social media since the preliminary numbers were announced late Tuesday evening. Foy has said he has no plans to concede.

The Daily News report indicated that around 1,000 paper ballots were cast, driving the total in District 36 to around 14,000.
