Youth Police Academy Holds Annual Reunion at BGHS

Past and present members of the NYPD Summer Youth Police Academy meet for an afternoon of music, games food and fun!

On Saturday, March 2, at Boys and Girls High School, the New York City Police Department held its annual reunion for the past and present members of its Summer Youth Police Academy.

The Summer Youth Police Academy is a six-week program open to youths aged 10-16.

YPA teaches participants discipline and self-confidence. Participants also received classes on critical youth-related topics such as gang awareness, Internet safety, bullying and drug awareness.

Days typically include activities such as calisthenics, military drills, and sports activities. Participants also enjoy field trips to historic landmarks, such as the USS Intrepid Museum.

Additionally, members of various speciality units within the Police Department. The program runs five days a week, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with sites throughout the five boroughs.

The program culminates with a graduation ceremony at One Police Plaza, hosted by the police commissioner.
