Town Hall Update on Stop-and-Frisk in Bed-Stuy

Event will update residents on the fight against the policing tactic.

As the fight over stop-and-frisk tactics by the NYPD continues in court, the Bed-Stuy community will host another meeting to update residents on its progress.

There will be a town hall-style meeting at Restoration Plaza on Thursday night in Bed-Stuy at 6 p.m. at 1368 Fulton St.

Most recently, a federal appeals court blocked a decision in August that would have appointed an independent federal observer to monitor stop-and-frisk tactics, and removed the judge who instituted it. That decision surprised and left many stop-and-frisk opponents flat-footed.

The Thursday meeting will be attended by multiple community leaders to help shape the strategy of those who stand against the policy going forward. Among those scheduled to attend will be:

City Council members-elect Robert Cornegy and Laurie Cumbo, Lumumba Bandele of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, L. Joy Williams of the NAACP Brooklyn and more.
