The 79th Precinct Community Council Meets Tonight

A full agenda awaits tonight's meeting

Concerned citizens of Bedford-Stuyvesant, come out to tonight's monthly meeting of the 79th Police Precinct Community Council, at 585 Dekalb Avenue, 7:00pm.

The agenda is full tonight. Here are some items you can look forward to:

  • An update by Deputy Inspector and Commanding Officer Peter Bartoszek on crime activity and crime patters in the 79th Pct. over the past month
  • The beginning of elections of new council board members for 2012/2013
  • The resignation of one very important figure (who prefers to remain unnamed until the announcement)
  • An opportunity for the community to sound off on areas of concerns, as it relates to crime in certain areas of the 79th Precinct (The 79th Pct encompasses Classon Ave to Marcus Garvey Blvd, east to west, and Flushing Ave to Atlantic Ave, north to South

  • Overall, crime in the 79th Pct. has experienced a steady incline, up nearly 30 percent for the month, compared to this 28-day period last year.
  • Since the beginning of the year 2012, there have been three different incidents of people robbed at gunpoint at the Bedford/Lafayette Subway station
  • Since December 1, 2011, there have been six people robbed at gunpoint at along the Spencer Street/Spencer Court corridor.
  • Robberies are up 67 percent year to date
