Suspect Claims Defense of Girlfriend in Liquor Store Assault

Man says he plans to turn himself in to police.

A suspect wanted by police in connection with a liquor store attack in Bed-Stuy claims he was defending his girlfriend from a homeless man, according to a report on Gothamist.

In an interview, the suspect, identified as Matt DeSio, claimed that he intends to turn himself in to police later this week, though an NYPD spokesman told the website that he has already missed more than one opportunity to do so.

DeSio said a man in the liquor store was harassing his girlfriend while he waited outside, and he leapt to her defense after hearing her call for help.

Police released photos of DeSio and his girlfriend at Lucky Liquor on Myrtle Avenue in Bed-Stuy and asked for the public's help in identifying them.
