Still No Arrests in Stabbing Death of 2-Year-Old Bed-Stuy Baby

Mother held in psychiatric ward as police continue investigation

Brandi Nwegbo, the mother of the two-year-old baby stabbed to death on January 6 in her Bed-Stuy apartment, has been arrested-- but not for the stabbing death.

According to police, Nwegbo is being held by the Department of Correction for an open warrant in connection with an earlier shoplifting incident in Manhattan.

Nwegbo, who her neighbors describe as mentally unstable, was found by police crying and clutching the deceased child last Friday morning. She has since been admitted to the psychiatric ward of Woodhull Hospital and is undergoing full evaluation.

However, there are no charges against Nwegbo in the stabbing death of her daughter, as investigators await the results of the child’s autopsy report and other evidence that would help lead to an arrest.
