Report: Police Stops Way Down This Summer

Police stops down 80 percent compared to 2012.

Police stops associated with stop-and-frisk were down more than 80 percent year-over-year this summer, according to an Associated Press report.

There were just over 21,000 stop-and-frisk stops in June, July and August of this year, the AP wrote Tuesday, a huge drop compared to the same period in 2012. During that year, more than 100,000 stops were recorded.

This past summer, thousands of New York City residents protested the NYPD's stop-and-frisk policies, and in August, a judge ruled the practice had to be reevaluated and monitored closely.

That decision has since been put on hold.

A police spokesman told the Associated Press that the NYPD doesn't have a set number of stops they attempt in a given time period.
