Report: Navy Yard Shooter's Bed-Stuy Family Stunned

The family of suspected Washington Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis was shocked by reports of the incident Monday, after visits from the NYPD and FBI, NBC 4 New York reported.

Alexis, who died at the scene of Monday's Washington shooting that left 12 others dead and more injured, was born in New York City. His mother and aunt live in Bed-Stuy, and their home was at the center of a fury of police activity after the shooting.

NBC 4 reported that the suspect's brother-in-law said the family was distraught and in shock after the FBI revealed Alexis as a suspect.

Alexis, according to many published reports, had been arrested multiple times for incidents involving firearms.
