Police Blotter: Two Shootings on Same Block in One Week; A Drug Arrest

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 81st Precinct

Crime is up 13 percent in the 81st precinct for the week of November 7 – November 13 (35 incidents versus 31 incidents), compared to last year at this same time. Crime is down 1.5 percent for the month (132 incidents versus 134), compared to this same 28- day period in 2010. And crime is up 2.6 percent year to date (1,242 incidents versus 1,210) compared to this same time last year.

2 Shootings and One Drug Arrest:

Sunday, November 20, at approximately 7:00pm a 50-year-old man was walking down Monroe Street between Ralph and Howard when he was shot once in the back. The victim reported he was just walking when he heard shots fired and then felt a sharp pain in his back. He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was listed in good condition. The victim says the perpetrators are unknown to him, and he has no leads on a possible motive. The police investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, November 17, The 81st Precinct issued a search warrant for an apartment unit inside Jackie Robinson Houses, located at 110 Chauncey Street between Stuyvesant Avenue and Malcolm X Blvd.  The cops recovered, marijuana, crack and drug paraphernalia. They also arrest five people – two males and three females.

On Tuesday, November 15, at approximately 10:00pm, NYPD received a call about shots fired on Monroe Street between Ralph and Howard Avenues. When police arrived, the found shell casings and other evidence of a shooting, but reported no property damage, and no one was hurt. They are conducting a search for surveillance cameras that might lead to the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
