Police Blotter: Two Victims Hit by Bullets Inside Their Homes

A weekly roundup of police activity in the 81st Precinct

Crime is up 12 percent this week in the 81st Precinct (38 incidents versus 34 incidents), compared to this same time last year. For the month, crime is up five percent (130 incidents versus 124 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period in 2010. And year to date, crime is up 2.5 percent (1,209 incidents versus 1,179 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2010.

3 Shootings:

On Friday, November 11, at approximately 11:40pm, an 18-year-old woman was shot in her finger while sitting in her home at Brevoort Houses, located at 296 Ralph Avenue at Fulton Street. According to the woman, she heard shots ring out in the hallway outside of her apartment door. After one bullet penetrated her door, she put her hands up and ducked, when subsequently one bullet struck and grazed her finger. The woman said she had no knowledge of the shooters or why the shooting started.  She was transported to Kings County Hospital where she is in good condition. The investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, November 12, at approximately 10:30pm, a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg while sitting on the couch in his home in the Jackie Robinson Houses, located at 110 Chauncey Street between Stuvesant Avenue and Malcolm X Blvd. According to the man, he heard four shots in the hallway outside of his apartment door and then felt pain. He looked down to find that he had been shot in the leg. The man said he had no knowledge of the shooters or why the shooting started.  He was then transported to Kings County Hospital where he is in good condition. The investigation is ongoing.

Sunday, November 13, 11:30pm, police received a call of shots fired from the roof of a building located on corner of Patchen Avenue and Hancock Street. Upon arriving at the scene, police found shell casings and other evidence that a shooting had taken place. No one was hit and the building sustained no damage, according to police. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
