Police Blotter: Two Robberies and a Missing BGHS Student

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

The 79th Pct experienced a nine percent crime increase the week of May 23 to May 29 (47 crimes vs 43 crimes), compared to this same week last year. For the month, there is a 10 percent crime increase (166 crimes vs 150 crimes), compared to this same 28-day period last year. Year-to-date, there is a nine percent decrease in crime    

Two Robberies

On Monday, May 23, a 20-year-old male arranged to meet a stranger on Hancock Street and Bedford Avenue to sell the unknown man a cell phone. According to the victim, he set up this transaction via the Internet. During the transaction, the unidentifed male perpetrator assaulted the male victim and stole his phone.

On Tuesday, May 24, at approximately 9:20 pm, a 24-year-old male was the victim of a gunpoint robbery. According to the victim, he was walking on Franklin Avenue near Monroe Street when two black males described to be around 20 years old displayed a firearm and forcibly removed a wallet and cell phone. The perpetratorts fled north on Franklin Avenue on foot.  

Burglary

On Tuesday, May 24, a commercial burglary of the Dekalb Funeral Home located at 491 Dekalb Avenue was reported to the 79th Pct. A back door lock was breached and the unknown perpetrators removed money from a locked box.  

Missing Person

The 79th Pct and the Missing Persons Squad is looking for a 14-year-old female identified as Phyliss Blakes. She is 5'4", approximately 120 pounds. She is a student at Boys and Girls High School. She was reported missing since Wednesday May 25. If anyone has any, information please contacty the 79th Precinct Detective Squad.
