Police Blotter: Two Locals Thwart Attempted Robberies

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

Crime is up 45 percent in the 79th Precinct (29 incidents versus 20 incidents), for the week of January 23 – January 29, compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is up 19 percent (128 incidents versus 120 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year. And year to date, crime is up 17 percent (130 incidents versus 111), compared to this same time period in 2011.

Four Robberies:

On Wednesday, February 1, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a man was robbed on Myrtle Avenue. According to police reports, the man, 26, was walking on Myrtle near Sanford Street when he was approached by four people, described as three young Hispanic males and one Hispanic female. According to the victim, one male and the young girl approached him, punched him and walked away. He walked further down the block and two more men stopped him at knife point and took a cell phone and money.  They then fled in an unknown direction. The investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, February 4, at approximately 10:20 p.m., there was an attempted robbery on Macon Street. According to police reports, a woman, 23, was walking along Macon Street near Verona Place when she was approached by an unknown male who approached her and tried to take her cell phone. After a short struggle, the victim recovered her cell phone. The perpetrator fled in an unknown direction. The investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, February 4, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a man was robbed on Flushing Avenue. According to police reports, the man, 20, was walking along Flushing near Marcy Avenue when two "unknown black males" approached from behind. One pressed a hard object against the victim’s back and said, "Keep walking, and give me all your stuff.” The other grabbed the victim's cell phone from his pocket and took his iPhone. The victim reported he did not see the perpetrators’ faces. The investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, February 6, at approximately 4:20 a.m., there was an attempted robbery on Pulaski Street. According to police reports, the man, 28, was entering his building on Pulaski near Tompkins Avenue when he noticed a shadow behind him. The victim turned around and saw a male with a silver revolver who said, "Everything now." Victim closed the door on the perpetrator. No property was removed. The investigation continues.

Shooting:

On Saturday, February 4, at approximately 1:10 p.m., three people were shot on Marcy and Lexington Avenues. No further information is available about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. All of the victims were transported to Kings County Hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing.
