Police Blotter: Tompkins Ave. Man Dies from Stab Wounds to Stomach

A weekly roundup of crime incidents in the 79th Precinct

Crime is down 22 percent in the 79th Precinct (36 incidents versus 46 incidents) for the week of July 30 – August 5, compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is down 21 percent (144 incidents versus 182 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period in last year. And year-to-date, crime is up 12 percent (1,171 incidents versus 1,047 incidents), compared to this same time in 2011.

Stabbing:

On Saturday, August 18, at approximately 9:50 p.m., 79th Pct. Police responded to calls of a 39-year-old Bed-Stuy man who was stabbed and killed in front of 65 Tompkins Avenue—a part of Tompkins Houses.  According to police, the victim, stabbed twice in the stomach with a knife, and rushed to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after. The perpetrator was identified and arrested. The Weapon was also recovered.

Shooting:

On Sunday, August 19, at approximately 2:05 a.m., 79th Pct. Police responded to a shooting inside of 991 Myrtle Avenue. According to police, the victim, a 19-year-old resident, was shot in the left thigh. He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was treated and released. The investigation is ongoing.
