Police Blotter: Three Burglaries and One Attempted Robbery

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

Crime is up eight percent in the 79th Precinct (27 incidents versus 25 incidents) for the week of March 5 – March 11, compared to this same time period in 2011. For the month, crime is up 11 percent (109 incidents versus 98 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year. For the year, crime is up 30 percent (321 incidents versus 247 incidents) compared to this same time last year.

Three Burglaries:

On Monday, March 12, at approximately 2:00pm, a 20-year old man was robbed at his residence on Taaffe Place. According to police reports, the victim states that he returned home to find his home burglarized of a three laptops and an iPad belong in to him and two roommates. The victim states he believes the perpetrator entered through the patio door.

On Friday, March 16, a man identified as Jerry Williams, 57, was arrested for the burglary of an unoccupied property under renovation, located at 661 Lafayette Avenue. At approximately 2:20am, the suspect was observed by a witness entering and exiting 661 Lafayette, while removing building material. The witness called the police who found Williams pushing a cart containing PVC and cast iron pipes, wood beams, 5 gallons of paint and PVC connections. The suspect was place under arrest. The suspect caused $150 in damage to the door from forcing it open.

On Friday, March 16, at approximately 2:00pm, a woman returned to her mother’s home on Monroe Street to find it had been ransacked and burglarized of a 47-inch flat-screen television. She reported the incident to police at around 3:30. Police canvassed the area and found no evidence. The investigation is ongoing.

Attempted Robbery:

Antonio Texidor, 57, was arrested on Wednesday, March 14 for an attempted robbery after the victim pointed him out to police. According to police reports, the victim stated she was walking along Vernon Avenue in the direction of Tompkins Ave when the suspect approached him and asked him a question. The suspect then grabbed the victim by the arm and tried to take his bag off his shoulder. The victim fought off the perpetrator and while backing away, managed to call 911. Police arrived shortly enough afterward for the victim to point out the perpetrator who was arrested.
