Police Blotter: Six Robberies and Two Shootings in One Week

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

Crime is up 31 percent in the 79th precinct for the week of December 19 - December 25 (34 incidents versus 26 incidents), compared to this same week in 2010. For the month, crime is up 28 percent (149 incidents versus 116 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year. And year to date, crime is up .3 percent (1,820 incidents versus 1,814 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2010.

Six Robberies:

On Monday, December 26, at approximately 9:00pm, a man was a victim of an iPod robbery. According to reports, the victim was waiting at the subway station at Lafayette and Bedford Avenues, when two men approached him. One grabbed him by his neck while the other forcibly removed his iPod and then fled the station. The victim provided no description of the perpetrators.

On Tuesday, December 27, at approximately 11:00am, a woman was robbed while walking down Greene Avenue. According to police reports, the woman was walking in front of 354 Greene Ave carrying a bag when a man grabbed her by the neck and choked her. Another perpetrator forcibly removed her bag containing a laptop. Investigation by the 79 detective squad resulted in apprehension of one of the perps.

On Tuesday, December 27, at approximately 5:55pm, a woman was choked, knocked unconscious and robbed while walking down Bedford Avenue. According to police reports, the woman was walking on Bedford Avenue near Monroe Street when an unknown man grabbed her by the neck and choked her. She blacked out and woke up to discover her Macbook and iPhone were missing. Detectives charged the same male as above for this robbery.

On Friday, December 30, at approximately 8:49pm, a man was robbed while checking his mail. According to reports, the victim was in front of his house on Putnam and Throop Avenues when two unknown men approached him. One said "What the fuck are you doing on my block, get that shit outta your pocket." And then both thugs fought with the victim, finally removing his iPhone. The only description provided by the victim was that both men were black. The investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, December 31, at approximately 1:00am, a man was robbed of his wallet on Myrtle Avenue. According to police reports, the man was walking down Myrtle Avenue near  near Tompkins Avenue when another man, placed a hard object in the victim's back and said, "Give me everything you have." After the victim handled over his wallet, the perpetrator fled west on Myrtle Avenue.

On Saturday, December 31, at approximately 8:00pm, a man was robbed while walking into his apartment on Pulaski Street. According to police reports, the man was walking into his apartment building at Pulaski Street and Nostrand Avenue, when another man came from behind and said, "Give me your money." The perpetrator then reached into the victim's bag and removed his wallet and cell phone. No description of the perpetrator was provided.

Two Shootings:

On Monday, December 26, at approximately 12:00pm, a man was rushed to Kings County Hospital after he reported he was suddenly shot in the right arm while walking down Willoughby Avenue near Kent. According to reports, the victim did not see the shooter, and so no description was provided. The victim is in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, December 31, at approximately 5:45pm, a man was shot in the hand and leg while standing on Dekalb Avenue. According to reports, the man was standing in front of  470 Dekalb Ave when an unknown male wearing a light blue hoodie approached him and fired at him, striking him in the left hand and left leg. The victim was rushed to Kings County Hospital and is in stable condition.
