Police Blotter: Six Robberies and one Shooting

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

Crime is up 19 percent in the 79th precinct (32 incidents versus 24 incidents), for the week of November 14 - November 20, compared to this same time period in 2010. Crime is down 4 percent for the month (135 incidents versus 140 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period in 2010. Year to date, crime is down 2 percent (1,641 incidents versus 1,669 incidents), compared to this same time last year.

Robberies:

On Tuesday, November 15, at approximately 8:10pm, a man was walking along 144 Spencer Street when he was knocked to the ground by two boys who then took the man’s wallet. Responding 79 police caught up with the two boys, 14 and 16 years old, on Dekalb and Marcy Avenues. Both were arrested and charged with robbery.

On Thursday, November 17, at approximately 6:45am, a male was walking down Franklin Avenue near Gates Avenue when he was approached from behind by another male. According to police reports, the victim gave up his phone and money. No statements were made. There was no description of the perpetrator given.

On Thursday, November 17, at approximately 10:15 am, two men walked into a grocery store, located at 924 Myrtle Avenue, and robbed the store at gunpoint.   $1,700 was removed from the register.

On Friday, November 18, at approximately 4:15 pm, a man walked into a dry cleaners located at 1470 Fulton Street, struck a 51-year-old female clerk, choked her and demanded money. The victim reported bruises to her head and a fractured ankle.

On Sunday, November 20, at approximately 10:55pm, two men, approximately 18 years old, attempted to forcibly rob another man who was walking home from the subway at 245 Madison Street. Responding police arrested one male and charged him with robbery. The investigation is ongoing.

On Friday, November 25, at approximately 2:05pm, two men, approximately 18 years old, approached another man on the street at 517 Franklin Avenue, asked him for the time and then attempted to rob the victim. One suspect attempted to take the victim’s headphones, but the victim fought him back. The other displayed a firearm from under his jacket, but also eventually fled. No property was stolen from the victim.

One Shooting: 

A man was shot in the lower back on Tuesday, November 22, at approximately 2:40pm in front of 18 Albany Avenue. No description of the suspects was provided. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was treated and released in good condition.
