Police Blotter: Police Find and Capture Rape Suspect

A weekly roundup of crime incidents in the 81st Pct.

The 81st Precinct is reporting a 30 percent increase in crime for the week of April 4 – April 10 (35 incidents vs. 27 incidents), compared to this same time period last year.  The precinct is reporting a 27 percent increase in crime for the month (109 incidents vs. 86 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year. 

And for the first time in 2011, where overall crime had been on the decline for the year in the confines of the 81st precinct, crime is now up by a slight 3 percent (323 incidents vs. 313 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2010.

Rape at Gunpoint

On Thursday, April 14, at approximately 3:30 am, a 16-year-old female was raped at gunpoint inside a home on Halsey Street after she asked for a cigarette from someone off the street. The man she asked told her he had cigarettes in his house, and then led up the stairs to his apartment. Once inside, he put a gun to her head and forced her to have intercourse.

Luckily, he used condoms and release her unharmed. Plainclothes officers spoke to her. They went to the apartment and were able to identify and arrest the suspect. He is in jail. The victim was treated at Woodhull Hospital.

Robbery at Gunpoint

On Monday, April 11, at approximately 8:00 pm, two men entered a store on Myrtle and Broadway, pointed a firearm at the employees, ordered them to lock the front door and then demanded money. One of the suspects used a stun gun and kicked one of the victims. The suspects got away with $8,000.

The suspects are described as black males with dreadlocks, both wearing bandanas over their faces and both wearing gray sweatpants. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing.

Shooting

On Sunday, April 10, at approximately 1:30 pm, two males walking to a store got into an argument with another male who was accompanied by two friends. All of them entered the store on the corner of Greene and Stuyvesant where the argument escalated.

Eventually, one of the men in the party of three shot the other two males-- one in the foot and one in the torso. Both victims were 21 years old. Police were able to apprehend the three suspects later from the store’s video and the victims’ description.

81st Precinct police are reporting an unusual rise in grand larceny thefts. They are asking the public to be more cognizant of their whereabouts and personal possessions, such as cell phones, when walking the street.
