Police Blotter: Four Shootings and a Stabbing

A weekly roundup of police activity in the 81st Precinct

Crime is down 4 percent in the 81st Precinct (27 incidents versus 28 incidents) for the week of March 12 – March 18, compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is up 3 percent (93 incidents versus 90 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year. And year to date, crime is up 16 percent (278 incidents versus 240 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2011.

Four Shootings:

On Thursday, March 19, at approximately 1:30pm, a 26-year-old man identified as Sydney Williams was shot and killed on Sumpter Street. According to witness reports, the man was washing the front right wheel of his car when an unidentified male walked up to him and shot him point-blank in the back of the head. The shooter was described as a black male wearing a hat and a hoodie. Following the shooting witnesses say the perpetrator got in a vehicle and pulled off. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

On March 19, at approximately 8:50pm, at 546 Monroe Street, a 44-year-old man identified as Dwight Hay was shot once on the left side of his ear during a home invasion. According to police reports, an unknown male entered the victim’s apartment, taped his wrists, and while he was struggling to break loose, the perpetrator fired a shot and grazed his right ear. The victim said the perpetrator was wearing a mask and he couldn’t see his face. The perpetrator took $600 in cash and fled the scene. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, March 22, at 9:25pm, a man identified as Araugo Domingo was shot once in the lower back in front of his apartment on Ralph Avenue. According to the victim, he said he was standing outside of his apartment when a man walked by and fired three shots; one hit him in the lower back. Was taken to Kings County where he is in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

On Friday, March 23, at approximately 3:18am, police received a 911 call of shots fired. Upon arrival at the scene, police did a search of the area and found six shell casings inside of an unoccupied car in front of 420 Bainbridge Street. There were no injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Stabbing:

On Tuesday, March 20, at approximately 8:40am, a 38-year-old man identified as Malcolm Moore was stabbed in his left leg inside of 657 Madison Street during a dispute with a friend. The victim knows the perpetrator, and stated he had some mental issues. Police arrested the perpetrator, and the case was closed.
