Police Blotter: Four Shootings and a Slashing

A weekly roundup of crime in the 81st Precinct.

Crime is down 7 percent in the 81st Precinct, for the week of September 19 - September 25, (27 incidents versus 29 incidents), 2011, compared to this same time last year. For the month, crime is down 35 percent (99 incidents versus 152), compared to this same 28-day period in 2010. And police are reporting an overall 2 percent increase (1,014 incidents versus 992 incidents) year-to-date, compared to this same time period in 2010.

4 Shootings:

On Tuesday, October 4, at approximately 9:00pm, 26-year-old man was shot once outside of 251 Ralph Avenue. According to the victim, he was standing by a parked car when an unknown person walked up behind him and started firing several shots at him. He was shot in the buttocks as he was fleeing. He admitted himself to Kings County Hospital. The investigation is ongoing. Police say they have a few leads.

Sunday, October 2, at approximately 2:00am, three shots were fired into a door at 120 Chauncey Street in the Jackie Robinson Houses, where a woman resided alone. The shots did not penetrate the door, so no one inside was hurt. According to the woman, she does not know why anyone would shoot at her door.

On Friday, September 30, sometime between midnight and 2:00am, shots were fired on Banbridge Street, between Howard and Ralph Avenues. A man called the police after he came out to his car and discovered the hood of his car had been damaged by bullets. Police recovered shell casings at the scene. Police do not have a motive, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Monday September 26, at approximately 4:45pm, two boys, 15 and 16 years old, were playing with a gun in a house on Halsey Street, between Lewis Avenue and Marcus Garvey Blvd, when the gun went off and shot them both. The 15-year-old was shot in the leg and the 16-year-old was shot in the finger. One of the boys' grandmothers called police. Upon their arrival, the police recovered the gun, arrested the 16-year-old for illegal possession of a firearm, and both were transported to Woodhull Hospital.

A Slashing:

On Thursday, September 29, at approximately 2:30pm, a 27-year-old man was slashed on the side of his face on the corner of Ralph and Putnam Avenues. He was taken to Woodhull Hospital. But police say he was highly uncooperative, as would not talk about it the incidents or provide any details on the assailant.
