Police Blotter: Fireworks Seizure and Criminals on the iPhone Prowl

A roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

The 79th Pct experienced a 31 percent increase in crime last week, July 4 - July 10, (46 incidents versus 35 incidents).

For the past month the 79th Precinct is reporting a four percent decrease in crime decrease (164 incidents versus 170 incidents).

On Friday, July 1, at approximately 11:00pm, members of the 79th Precinct conditions team made a significant fireworks seizure based on intelligence that was gathered. One male perpetrator was arrested at the corner of Dekalb and Nostrand Avenues, where he was stopped in his auto. The fireworks were seized from his auto and the male was placed under arrest without incident. The male perpetrator who resides in northern Manhattan was selling illegal fireworks to various areas of Brooklyn.

On Wednesday, July 6, at approximately 4:20am, three people were shot inside of the lobby of 370 Lexington Ave (Armstrong Housing Development). All three victims sustained non life-threatening injuries and were treated at an area hospital. The motive of this shooting may have stemmed from a marijuana sale. The investigation continues by the 79th Precinct Detective Squad and no perpetrators have been identified as of yet.   

Robberies: 

On Tuesday, July 5, at approximately 12:10am a 56-year-old woman was a victim of a phone snatch at the corner of Quincy Street and Nostrand Avenue. This victim was walking and texting on her phone when an unknown perpetrator snatched it out of her hands and fled northbound on Nostrand Avenue.

On Thursday, July 7, at approximately 1:20am, a 25-year-old man was a victim of a robbery. The victim was walking southbound on Marcy Avenue near Throop Avenue when an unknown male assaulted him from behind and forcibly removed his iPhone.  

On Saturday, July 9, at approximately 2:00am, a 28-year-old man was a victim of a robbery. The male was walking on Ellery Street from Throop Avenue when an unknown suspect threw him to the ground and forcibly removed his iPhone. 

Burglary:

At some point between July 5 and July 6, an unknown perpetrator climbed through an unlocked rear window at 19 Herkimer Street and took an Mac Laptop.
