Police Blotter: Cars Stolen and Then Crashed as Victims Get Gas

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

  • On Sunday, January 1, at 9:45pm, a 25-year-old man was robbed on Hancock Street. According to the police report, the man was walking on Hancock Street near Tompkins Avenue when two men approached him and asked him for the time. The victim took out his iPhone to check the time, when one of the perpetrators confiscated his phone. The other perpetrator pulled out a black handgun and demanded his wallet. The first perp was described as 6'0, approximately 160 lbs with short hair, age unknown. The second one was described as 5'7, approximately 155 lbs, with brown eyes, black short hair. 
  • On Wednesday, January 4, at approximately 12:23am, a man's car was stolen in Bed-Stuy and then crashed in East New York, Brooklyn. According to the police report, the car's owner left his 2011 Lexus R35 parked with the keys in the ignition at the BP station at 1381 Atlantic Ave. An unknown male jumped in the car and drove off with the vehicle. The thief then ran several red lights and caused a serious accident in the 77 Precinct. The perpetrator was placed under arrest for grand larceny of an auto. 
  • On Friday, January 6, at approximately 5:10am, a 70-year-old woman's car was stolen and then crashed shortly thereafter. According to the police report, the woman was filling up her 2004 Toyota Highlander at Hess on Bedford Avenue when a man, described as a black a male, approximately 25 years old, jumped into her car, displayed a firearm and then drove off. The thief ended up crashing the car near the intersection of Park and Grand Avenues. The perpetrator then fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
  • On Friday, January 6, at approximately 9:15am, a woman's iPhone was stolen at knifepoint. According to the police report, the woman, 25 years old, was walking down the Lafayette/Bedford subway station when a man, described as a black male whose face was covered, placed a knife at her stomach and forcibly removed her iPhone from her jacket. The perpetrator then fled. The investigation is ongoing.
  • On Saturday, January 7, at approximately 2:35am, three people were shot on Herkimer street. According to the police report, a group of people were standing in front of 72 Herkimer Street when an undescribed perpetrator fired a handgun into the crowd. Three people were struck and were transported to Kings County Hospital where they are in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
  • On Saturday, January 7, at approximately 2:30am and also at 2:50pm (two incidents), two separate victims were robbed of their jewelry while giving directions. According to the police report, in both instances the victims were walking along Marcus Garvey Blvd near Myrtle Avenue when a silver Dodge Ram pick-up truck approached them to ask for directions. When the victims leaned into the car to offer directions, the perpetrator, described as a black male, approximately 35 years old, with Florida license plates, reached over and snatched the victims' chains and then drove off. The investigation is ongoing.
