Police Blotter: A Slashing, two Shootings and a Drug Bust

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 81st Precinct

Crime is up in the 81st precinct 14 percent (32 incidents, versus 28 incidents) for the week of May 21 – May 27, compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is up 1.6 percent (125 incidents versus 123 incidents), compared to this 28-day period in 2011. Year to date, crime is up 13 percent (582 incidents versus 517 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2011.

Slashing:

On Tuesday, May 29, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a Boys & Girls High School student was slashed in the face during an altercation with another BGHS student. According to police, the students, both girls, knew each other and had been fighting the week prior and as a result were suspended at the time of the incident. The two got into another altercation at Jackie Robinson Park when one of the girls pulled out a box cutter and slashed the other across the face. The victim, 17, was taken to Kings County Hospital, and was listed in stable condition. The slasher has been arrested.

Two Shootings:

On Saturday May 26, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a man was shot and killed on Decatur Street between Patchen and Ralph avenues. According to a witness at the scene, the victim, later identified as Guy Simpson, 26, was standing in front of the doorway at 451 Decatur Street, next to a grey Ford Taurus when a man described as a black male 18 – 20 years, wearing a white shirt and grey hoodie, approached him and fired off several shots, hitting the victim in the torso and the face. The shooter then fled westbound on Decatur Street. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.

On Friday, May 25, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a 19-year-old boy was shot and killed in front of 847 Hancock Street between Ralph and Howard avenues. According to an anonymous witness, the victim was walking along Hancock when an unknown man and woman approached him and the man told him, “run your sh**” (give me everything you’ve got). When the victim refused, the male shooter then reached into the female’s purse, pulled out a handgun shot five rounds, according to the witness. One of the bullets hit the victim in the back as he was running. The victim continued running until he reached 90 Howard Street, where cops found him lying face down and passed out. The victim, identified as Isaiah Roberts, had four prior arrests. He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.

Drug Bust:

On Tuesday, May 22, at approximately 6:30 p.m. 81st Precinct police executed a warrant and drug bust at an apartment located in 1849 – 1851 Atlantic Avenue. Police recovered a 9 bags of marijuana, 2 zips of crack cocaine, 45 live rounds of 40 caliber bullets, more than $3,000 in cash and $9,500 in counterfeit bills. Additionally, six males and one female were arrested.
