Police Blotter: A Slashing and a Stabbing

A weekly rundown of a few reported incidents in the 81st Precinct

Crime activity in the 81st Precinct is reportedly up 17.2 percent for the week of May 5, through May 8, (34 incidents vs. 29), compared to this same time period last year.

For the month, crime is up 13.2 percent (103 incidents vs. 91), compared to this same 28-day period last year.

And crime is up 5.7 percent so far this year (427 incidents vs. 404), compared to this same time of the year in 2010.

A few incidents:

On Thursday, May 12, at approximately 9:45 am, a 65-year-old man was slashed in the stomach on the corner of Greene and Patchen Avenues. The victim reports that he got into an altercation with an acquaintance over $20. The argument escalated, and eventually, the guy pulled out a pocketknife and slashed him in the stomach. The victim called the police, who were able to apprehend and arrest the perpetrator.

On Thursday, May 12, at approximately 1:30 pm, a 17-year-old male was shot one time in the lower abdomen on the circle of Fulton Street and Utica Avenue. The teen reported that he got into an argument with 3 other teens who described as all dressed in black. The victim reports that he knew the teens; words were exchanged; they punched him, and as he ducked down, one of the guys pulled out a gun and shot him. All three of the guys fled the scene. Police say they have a few leads on the perpetrators, and they are continuing their investigation.

On Sunday, May 15, at approximately 9:30 am, a 57-year-old man was stabbed once in his right arm on the corner of Dekalb and Lewis Avenues. The victim reported that he was going to visit a female friend and got into an argument with another guy at his friend's residence. The fight escalated; the perpetrator pulled out a knife and stabbed him, and then fled down the block. The incident is still under investigation.
