Police Blotter: UPDATE-- Elevator Victim Dies of Injuries

A weekly roundup of police incidents in the 79th and 81st Precincts

UPDATE 7:15 pm : The male victim who fell down the elevator shaft at 988 Myrtle today died at approximately 9:40 am. The male, who was 47 years old, was performing routine elevator maintenace. It appears that he was on top of the elevator greasing the rails when he apparantly lost his balance and fell, causing his demise. At this time, this incident appears to be accidental.

79th Precinct

The 79th Pct had a 12 percent decrease in crime the week of 2/21 - 2/27 , 30 incidents for the week, versus 34 in this same week last year. For the month, the precinct experienced a 26 percent decrease in crime, 84 versus 114, during this same 28-day period last year.

Shooting

On Monday, February 21, 4:20 pm a male, 20 years old was shot in his left arm while standing in front of 303 Vernon Ave. At this time, it is unknown who shot him. Investigation by the 79th Pct Detective squad continues.  

Commercial Robberies  

On Monday, February 21 at 2:30 pm, a cell phone store located at 435 Dekalb Avenue was robbed at gunpoint. Two males entered the location, one of whom displayed a black handgun and removed money from the register. The males fled towards the Lafayette Gardens Housing Development. Investigation continues.    

On Friday, February 25, at 2:1o pm, a bodega loacted at 310 Nostrand Avenue was robbed at gunpoint. The perpetrators were three males who came into the store, one of whom produced a black handgun and demanded money. The perpetrators fled with $1,200 in a white dodge auto. Investigation continues.  

Auto Break In  

On Sunday, February 27, at approximately 1:00 am, a parked car window was shattered and its personal property was removed. The car was parked in front of 210 Lefferts Place. The perpetrators are unknown at this time.

Injury

Today, March 2, at approximately 9:50 am, a person reportedly fell down and elevator shaft at 988 Myrtle Ave. The EMS transported the victim to Woodhull Hospital in serious condition with an unmanageable airway.

 

81st Precinct

The 81st Pct had a 15 percent decrease in crime for the week of  2/14 - 2/20, with 11 versus 13 incidents, compared to this same week last year. For the month, the precinct experienced a 17 percent decrease in crime, 68 versus 82, during this same 28-day period last year.

Shooting

On Friday, February 25, at approximately 1:20 am, an unidentified male was shot on the fourth floor of 307 Malcolm X Boulevard. The victim, who was shot in the groin was transported in stable condition to KCH

Possible Murder

Today, March 2, at 12:40 am, police officers while conducting routine patrol were flagged down by an individual at the corner of Stuyvesant avenue and Vernon avenue, within the confines of the 81 precinct. At that time, police were informed of an unconscious and unresponsive black male, 56, in front of 8 Stuyvesant avenue with serious head trauma. EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to Woodhull Hospital where he was pronounced DOA. There are no arrests at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
