Police Blotter: A Shooting, a Stabbing and a Suspicious Fire

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 81st Precinct

Crime is up in the 81st Police Precinct 32 percent (25 incidents versus 19 incidents), for the week of February 6 – February 12, compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is 33 percent (106 incidents versus 180 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year. And year to date, crime is up 13 percent (152 incidents versus 134 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2011.

Shooting:

On Sunday, February 19, at approximately 1:30am, one shot was fired through a second-floor apartment window at a house on Monroe Street between Lewis and Marcus Garvey Blvd. Police were called to the scene where the owner said he was working on a computer when he suddenly heard a pop and a window break. There were no injuries, but a bullet was discovered inside of the resident’s computer speaker. Police report that a canvass of the area outside of the home produced no shelling. The investigation is ongoing.

Stabbing:

On Monday, February 13, at approximately 4:15pm, a man was stabbed during a robbery attempt aboard a southbound C train at the Utica station. The perpetrator tried to steal his jacket. The suspect demanded his jacket, and when he refused, he stabbed him in the chest one time. No one has come forward. No description was provided of the assailant. The guy was admitted to Kings County and was released in fair condition. The investigation is ongoing.

Suspicious Fire:

On Saturday, February 11, at approximately 11:00am, a suspicious one-alarm fire inside at 1711 Fulton Street. Seven people were injured from smoke inhalation. An unknown person ignited a piece of furniture in the hallway on the 6th floor. Fire marshals are investigating.
