Police Blotter: A Homicide, Two Shootings and a Robbery

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 81st precinct

Crime is up 18 percent this week in the 81st Precinct (39 incidents, versus 33 incidents) for the week of December 5 – December 11, compared to this same time last year. Crime is up 2 percent for the month (133 incidents, versus 131 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period in 2010. Year to date, crime is up 3 percent (1,379 incidents, versus 1,342 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2010.

Homicide:

On Friday, December 16, at approximately 6:15pm, a 62-year-old man was stabbed and killed inside of 1872 Fulton Street. According to police reports, the victim and another man, 45, were arguing over food when the perpetrator stabbed him once in the chest, killing him. The perpetrator has since been arrested. He was charged with murder in the 1st degree and currently is awaiting trial.

Two Shootings:

On Friday, December 16, at approximately 7:45pm, a 17-year-old was assaulted and shot in the buttocks in front of 1019 Lafayette Avenue. According to police reports, the victim said he was walking down Lafayette Street when six black males around 18-19 years old unknown to the victim, approached him, grabbed the hood of his jacket and tried to pull his hood over his head.  During the struggle, the victim reports he felt pain his buttocks, and that’s when he realized he was shot. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital were he was treated and released. The investigation is ongoing into the identification and whereabouts of the perpetrators.

On Monday, December 19, at approximately 7:22pm two men were shot in front of a deli at 1922 Fulton Street. According to police reports, the two men were walking out of the deli when the suspect, described as a black male, around 17 years old, with a thin build walked toward them and started shooting. One victim, 34 years old, was shot in the back and the other victim, 17 yars old, was shot in the right foot. Both victims say the suspect is unknown to them. There was one witness to the incident, but he was reported as uncooperative (did not want to talk). Both victims were transported to Kings County Hospital where they were treated and released. The investigation is ongoing.  

 Robbery at Gunpoint:

On Tuesday, December 20, at approximately 10:30pm, a deli was robbed at gunpoint. According to police reports, a man described as a black male, 5’ 7”, approximately 140 lbs, wearing a blue baseball cap, gray pants and white sneakers with a white bandana covering his face walked into a deli located at 567 Jefferson, displayed a black firearm to the clerk and demanded money. The clerk handed over $200, at which point the suspect grabbed the money and fled down Lewis Avenue. Police are on the lookout for the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.
