Police Blotter: A Drug Bust, A Shooting and a Sexual Assault

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 81st Precinct

For the week of June 20, through June 26, 2011, the 81st Precinct is reporting a 14 percent decrease in crime, with 25 incidents versus 29 incidents, comapred to this same week last year.

For the past month, there is a 15 percent increase in crime, with 116 incidents versus 101 incidents, compared to this same 28-day period last year. For year to date, there has been a 12 percent increase in crime, with 635 incidents versus 567 incidents, compared to this same time period in 2010.

Shooting

On Monday, July 4, a Bed-Stuy resident reported that at approximately 7:00pm on the corner of Schenectady Avenue and Herkimer Street, nine shots were fired at him by an unknown black male. No one was hurt. Police say they have a lead suspect, but they have not yet made an arrest. The man who filed the report was mistakenly targeted. “We don’t know who he was shooting at or why, but we know he had an intended target,” police added.

Sexual Assault

On Tuesday, July 5 at approximately 4:00am, an 18-year-old male reported that he was the victim of an attempted sexual assault. According to the victim, he was walking down Chauncey Street when an unknown black male wearing a green jogging suit started walking next to him, placed his arm around his neck and directed him to continue walking or that he would cut him. The suspect then pulled his pants down and demanded the victim perform oral sex. The 18-year-old resisted, forced himself away after which the suspect ran off. Police are continuing an investigation and have made no arrest.

Drug Bust

On Wednesday, July 6, at approximately 7:00am, 81st Pct police were able to execute a search warrant of a drug residence on Madison Street, between Patchen and Ralph Avenues. Police raided the home and recovered an undisclosed amount of heroine, crack cocaine and drug packaging paraphernalia. Police also arrested and have jailed four males and one female who were in the house and running the operation.
