Police Blotter: A Drowning, a Murder and a Slashing

A weekly roundup of police and crime activity in the 81st Precinct

The 81st Precinct experienced a 44 percent overall increase in crime for the week of March 14 to March 20  (26 crimes vs 18 crimes), compared to this same week last year.

For the past month the 81st Precinct is reporting a total 9.6 percent increase in overall crimes (91 crimes vs 83 crimes), compared to this same month last year. And for year to date, there have been a total of 236 crimes in 2011 vs. 245 crimes at this same time in 2010, a 3.7 percent overall decrease.

Drowning

On Tuesday, March 29, at approximately 10:00 am, the 81st Pct. received a report of an 83-year-old man who was found drowned, submerged in tub of water in the basement of his home at 574 Decatur Street. The man was discovered by his home health aid. The victim was reported DOA. The police are reporting there is nothing suspicious, but the cause of his drowning is still under investigation.

Murder

On Thursday, March 24, at approximately 10:55 pm, a male was shot in the lobby of 128 Lewis Avenue (Roosevelt Houses). Upon arrival, police observed the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency vehicles responded to the location and pronounced the victim DOA. The victim has been identified as Ikhym Moore, a black male, 19 years old, from 1488 Irving Avenue. The family has been notified. There are no arrest(s) at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

Shooting

On Sunday, March 20, at approximately 4:30 am, in front of 1104 Lafayette Avenue, a man, 36, was shot in the lower leg, during an argument outside of 1104 Lafayette Avenue. The victim alleges that two men were arguing, so he walked outside to witness, and at that time he was shot. There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

Slashing

On Tuesday, March 22, at approximately 5:00 am, a man, 25, reported he was slashed in the left side of his knee, after he got into an argument with another male on the corner of Lewis Avenue and Kosciusko Street. The victim was sent to Woodhull Hospital. The slasher has been identified, and the police currently are looking for him.
